Cincinnati Middle School Golf League
Over the winter of 2009-2010, several area Middle School golf coaches met to form the Cincinnati Middle School Golf League. The League was formed in order to enhance the competition among the local middle school teams.
Purpose: The purpose of the league is to enhance the competition among local middle school teams by providing an additional competitive element for teams and individuals. The league is not intended to restrict or limit play in any way.
Structure: The teams will be divided into three conferences based upon the number of entries. For the regular season, teams will be required to play a match against all of the other teams in their conference. The conference records will be maintained to determine the regular season Conference Champions. At the end of the season, a tournament will be held for all teams to determine the overall League Champions.
Note: Membership in the CMS League is not intended to prohibit member teams from playing against other schools that are not in the league. You must complete all of the conference matches but you may still play as many non-league matches as you want. However, for our record keeping purposes, only matches against league teams will be counted.
Eligibility: Private or public school-sponsored teams made up of boys and/or girls grades 6-8.
Team Rosters: It is up to the individual school to determine how many players will be carried on its team. However, matches will be limited to six players per team and only one team from each school will compete in league play. Each school in the league is expected to field its best team for league play. This does not prohibit schools from having multiple teams and scheduling matches for those teams, but the league is considered to be an “A” league. For our League Championship tournament, we will have a “B” Team Division.
Scheduling: The coach for each team is responsible for scheduling matches for his team.

Rules for the Cincinnati Middle School League
Eligibility: Private or public-school teams made up of boys and/or girls grades 6-8.
Team Rosters: It is up to the individual school to determine how many players will be carried on its team. However, matches will be limited to six players per team and to have a match four players must be available for play.
Out of the six players competing, you take the four best scores for the team score. If there is a tie, then you go to the fifth score.
• MAXIMUM SCORE – In order to help pace of play, maximum score is double par.
• FLOWER/MULCH BEDS – Player must take a free drop within one club length of the nearest point of relief without getting closer to the hole – no penalty.
• POWER LINES – Any ball striking power lines or towers MUST be replayed without penalty.
• ADVICE – Players CAN NOT receive advice from anyone other their 1 designated coach. Breach of rule results in a two-stroke penalty. In other words, players CAN NOT receive advice from parents.
Suggestion for parents watching, always stay a half of hole ahead.
Rules Reminders
• Out of Bounds or Lost Ball – If a player loses his ball outside of a penalty area or hits it out of bounds, he must play again from the same spot and count a penalty stroke. Since you also need to count the shot that you hit out of bounds, it amounts to two strokes. For example, your tee shot goes out of bounds. You count that shot, add a penalty shot, and you are now hitting your third shot from the tee.
• Provisional Ball – If a player believes that his ball may be out of bounds or lost outside a penalty area, he should play a provisional ball. The player may continue play with the provisional ball up to the point where the original ball is likely to be. If the original ball is found in bounds, then the player must abandon the provisional ball.
• Penalty Area Relief – For a ball that is hit into a penalty area, the player has the following options:
o Play the ball as it lies - no penalty
o Hit again from where the previous shot was played (stroke and distance) – 1 stroke penalty
o Drop a ball within two club lengths from where it last crossed the margin of the penalty area without getting closer to the hole – 1 stroke penalty
o Keep the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the penalty area between you and the hole and drop as far back on that line as you wish – 1 stroke penalty
• If a player hits his ball into a situation outside of a penalty area where he thinks he is unable to play, he may take an “Unplayable Ball”, add one penalty stroke to his score and do one of the following options:
o i. Stroke and distance (play again from where the previous shot was played)
o ii. Keep point where ball lies and go straight back away from hole as far as you want
o iii. Drop within two clubs from where ball lies without getting closer to the hole
• Temporary Water, Ground Under Repair, Immovable Obstruction (cart path) – If a player has to stand or hit out of one of these situations, he may take relief by finding the nearest spot where his ball or stance is not affected by the situation without getting closer to the hole and dropping within one club length of that spot – no penalty.

The League manager will have discretion to approve or disapprove such an entry. Schools may enter multiple teams in this event.
All teams are comprised of six players and scoring will be the low four scores out of six.
Eligibility: Current members of Cincinnati Middle School Golf League may enter the Main Event or the “B Team” Division.
